Overview

HistoricalThe lease hold area of Kustore Area is entirely covered by Barakar formation. The coal bearing rocks of Barakar formation of Permian age occur in the Collieries area under a thin layer of soil. The exploration has revealed the existence of 35 nos. of coal seams from XVIII D to I Bott. Out of which 12-13 nos of seams are workable. A mica peridotite dyke of about 60m width is found in the western part of the Area. Few mines of this Area are affected by fire prior to Nationalization. The same fire is exists till date. This Area is amalgamation of 20 mines of pre-nationalization period.

Initially Kustore Area was consisted of 8 (Eight) mines, namely Alkusa, Kustore, Burragarh, Hurriladih Simlabahal, East Bhuggatdih Ena OCP & ROCP/SJ Collieries out of which 6 mines were underground & other two mines were opencast. This Area was bifurcated into two Areas like Kustore & Bhalgora in the year 1987. Five mines consisted of three underground and two opencast mines were under Kustore Area and three underground mines consisted of Simlabahal, Hurriladih and Burragarh Collieries were under Bhalgora Area. In the year 1997 both the above two Areas became amalgamated into one Area namely Kustore Area. It covering a leasehold area of 1570.55 Hect.(Including Bhutgoria closed mine). The Kustore Area has 2 Nos. of Railway Siding namely Burragarh siding (feed for Washery ) and BNR siding, Kustore (feed for Power House).

Location:

The Kustore Area is located in the western part of Jharia Coal Field and falls in Dhanbad District of Jharkhand. It is about 9 KM South- West of Dhanbad Railway Station. The latitude and longitude of the Area are 23’43’15” to 23’46’28.02″ North & 86’22’54.6″ to 86’25’38.5″ East respectively. It is about 2 KM western of Jharia Township.

Area affected by fire & subsidence & its dealing:

Presently ROCP/SJ, Ena OCP and East Bhuggatdih mines of this Area are affected by fire. East Bhuggatdih underground mine is closed since 2006 due to underground fire in X seam. Rest two mines are Opencast; both are running by dealing with fire under the scheme of dealing with fire as per Master Plan. One Hired patch A of Ena Opencast Project is dealt by excavating XI/XII combined seam by OC under the scheme of dealing with fire as per Jharia Master Plan.

Future planning:

The Area has planned to produce 19.00 lakh tones of coal in the year 2010-11 compared to 16.60 lakh tones achieved in 2009-10 which is almost 14.45% planned jump in production over last year. The production level will further increase in coming years as because of the following major projects:-

(i) It has been proposed to drive 3 nos parallel Inclines from floor of V-VIII (Combined) seam of ROCP/South Jharia for underground operation. The Inclines will encounter 6 nos of seams {(from IV (Top) to I (Top)} within a distance of 692.00 mtrs.. Out of these top most two nos of seams (IV Top & IV Bot) are not workable for underground due to thinnes. Rest 4 nos of seams having 56.00 Mill te of Geological reserves will be worked from underground. As a result production will enhance to the tune of 1.00 Mill.Te. per annum.

(ii) It has also been proposed to extract coal from 2 Nos of Hired HEMM fire Patches of ROCP/South Jharia namely i) L-5 patch which has coal reserve 16.5 Lac Te of coal against 57.00 Lac cum of overburden for a period of three years and by which Area will enhance the extra production of 5.5 Lac.Te. per annum and ii) L-6 patch has a coal reserve of 39.4 Lac.Te. against 77.7 lac Cum of overburden for a period of four years will also enhance the extra production of 9.85 Lac.Te per annum. In totality 15.35 Lac Te. of coal will be enhanced as extra production from those above patches.

(iii) Proposal for exploitation and development of Bhalgora Project through Global Tendering in a Turn Key basis for a capacity of 2.00 MTY has been approved in 272nd Board Meeting of BCCL and CMPDI, RI-II has been requested to make a NIT documents for inviting Global Tender for the Project.

(iv) Re-opening of Bhutgoria underground mine by S & T Mining Co.(A joint venture of SAIL & TATA Steel ) with a minimum profit of 20%.
